Ventriloquist’s Doll

Local girl Pauline White, pictured below (stage name Kay) learned the skill of Ventriloquism at the young age of 7 and gave her first public appearance two years later in 1946. In 1948 she won the De Havilland talent competition against 28 other competitors.

Kay’s doll was Sadie and the act was called ‘The Wonder Girl Ventriloquist and Telepathist’. It was very rare to have a female ventriloquist and still remains predominantly a male profession.
