Reminiscence

Reminiscence Sessions have been proven to provide therapeutic benefits for older people, particularly those suffering from dementia. These sessions are delivered by trained museum staff and volunteers and include handling of “memory boxes” containing familiar objects from the past. Tactile, visual and audio experiences aid the reminiscence process and encourage fun and laughter and the recall of pleasant and happy memories.

Our Reminiscence Sessions encourage group communication and help reduce social isolation but allow participants to engage in their own way. If you would like to know more about this service, please do contact us.

Workshops are priced at £95 for an hour’s session. Thanks to the Hertfordshire Association of Museums, funding is available to operate a pay what you can scheme to enable grassroots groups and community lunch clubs to access the service.

The reminiscence boxes can also be hired for a week at a cost of £50. We offer two memory boxes, the first covers the 1950’s and 60’s and the second, 1970’s and 80’s.
