The reference collection was started by Museum founders, the Andrews Brothers, in the late 19th century. The reference library is stored at the Seed Warehouse and holds books, manuscripts and newspaper cuttings relating to Hertford Museum's Collections as well as the history of Hertford, including some beautiful volumes dating back to the 17th century. An extensive collection of manuscripts detailing research by R.T. and W. F. Andrews as well as R.T.’s son and later curator, H. C. Andrews, covers a wide range of local history topics.

If you would like to access this collection for research, the library is open on Thursday mornings by appointment only. You can make an appointment here.
Public Access
The Hertford Museum reference Library holds in excess of 6000 books, manuscripts and newspaper cuttings.
