Hertford Museum cares for in excess of 80,000 objects. Our collections include archaeology, ephemera, ethnography, fine art, geology, Hertfordshire Regiment, natural history, photographs and social history. We also hold the Addis company archive, including the largest collection of toothbrushes in the UK.

Museum founders, the Andrews brothers, began collecting in the late 19th century and opened the museum in 1903 at their offices in Fore Street. The diversity of the collection illustrates their success in attracting donations from well travelled Hertfordians and local collectors.

Hertford Museum Mission Statement

Hertford Museum aims to collect, preserve and interpret evidence of the history of the county town and surrounding parishes in the district of East Hertfordshire for the interest, enjoyment and understanding of the local community and other visitors.
